Communications

Manager, Production

This position is responsible for the production, inventory management and order processing of books, reports, and CD ROMs published by HIMSS, and for maintaining online bookstore in TIMSS.  This includes overseeing the purchase of outside services related to the production of books, CD ROMs and reports including copyediting, design, typesetting, proofreading, indexing, and printing. Solicit competitive bids for books, reports and CD ROMs; analyze and awards bids for services; initiate purchase order requisitions; approves and submits invoices for timely payment; and maintains appropriate financial records.  Provide schedule, product specifications, and other appropriate guidance to vendors and monitors their progress throughout the production process; ensures that products meet quality standards for production. Work with VP and sponsoring editors to ensure appropriate corrections/changes are made to covers and page proofs. Provide updates on all production projects on a regular basis to VP, Communications and sponsoring editors and product owners of books, reports and CD ROMs.  Manages development of the HIMSS annual conference proceedings CD ROM, working with all stakeholders to ensure that content is submitted and reviewed on a timely basis; also manages the production of the CD ROM, soliciting bids and ensuring that appropriate specifications are submitted and followed, and ensuring that the CD ROMs are completed and shipped to the annual conference on schedule.  Perform other related duties as required or assigned that contribute to the effectiveness of the department.  All duties as assigned to achieve HIMSS goals and objectives. 

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications, Journalism or English.  Four or more years in book and CD ROM graphic arts and production.  Solid knowledge of graphic arts, typesetting, design, printing and binding.  Ability to communicate appropriate and accurate job specifications to vendors.  Basic copyediting and proofreading skills.  Good interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to deal effectively and positively with others.  Excellent coordination skills and the ability to manage several projects at once.  Experience with inventory management preferred. Experience in an association or not-for-profit environment is desirable.

Data Collections and Quality

Associate, Market Research

The Market Research Associate’s primary responsibility is to evaluate, organize, initiate and manage their own data collection efforts across multiple organizations and effectively and efficiently collect data that is required to meet the product deliverable schedules.  The Associate will research each organization to understand the make-up of that organization as well as the basic corporate philosophy and determine a strategy for obtaining the annual update.  Coordinates and organizes all interview materials, correspondence, delivery system reports and determine a time schedule for completion. 

Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts preferred – the ability to think critically, develop a plan and implement a solution.  Excellent interpersonal skills – the ability to respond and work with a wide range of personality types internal and external to the organization.  Strong organizational and time management skills to achieve goals.  Telephone data collection and/or research experience.  Must be comfortable in placing outbound calls and spending considerable percentage of time collecting information over the telephone.  Strong writing skills.  Self-starter who takes initiative and can creatively find solutions independently.

Sr. Director, Distance Education

This staff position will provide strategic direction and tactical oversight to the development of all Distance Education initiatives offered by HIMSS.  Distance education includes, but is not limited to, Virtual Conference & Exhibition (VCE), eLearning Academy, a certificate program HIMSS offers in partnership with the University of Connecticut, webinars, and a second certificate program HIMSS offers in partnership with the Irish Computing Society.  This position represents HIMSS distance education both nationally and internationally, and leads the team responsible for one of the corner-stone initiatives key to HIMSS’s long-term success.  This position is responsible for achieving success in all Distance Education programs, both financially and programmatically.  Provides exemplary supervision and guidance to distance education direct reports resulting in a cohesive group committed to, and with the competency to, achieve annual and long-term goals.

Required Qualifications: Masters Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in adult education or distance learning program development environments or health information technology. Five years of related work experience in strategic design, development and evaluation of distance learning education programs, particularly in a virtual environment. At least three years of experience at a management level or higher in a healthcare provider or consulting environment. At least three years of experience in effective supervision of multiple staff. Outstanding strategic and analytical skills with ability to achieve results in a complex environment. Ability to articulate a strategy for the development of a robust distance leaning environment that meets the needs of healthcare IT professionals. (via the eLearning Academy, Virtual Conference & Expo and Webinar offerings.) Ability to direct multiple, complex, strategically-focused, concurrent assignments. Must be able to pull together resources to implement proposed strategies. Ability to provide senior level management expertise in leading Distance education initiatives at HIMSS.  Demonstrated ability to articulate ideas and concepts; and to represent HIMSS externally Ability to direct multiple, complex, strategically-focused, concurrent assignments.  Exceptional project management skills and ability to manage multiple complex projects; ability to direct projects to completion within budget and time frames. PMP highly desirable.  Demonstrated entrepreneurial ability to initiate educational programs to achieve budgeted goals.  Financial management skills to develop and execute related budgets and achieve budgeted outcomes.

Government Relations

Manager, State Government Relations (Arlington)

The Manager for State Government Relations will provide support to the Senior, Director, State Government Relations in areas of state policy and advocacy. On a daily basis, the Manager will work with Chapters in planning for their advocacy activities, track and analyze state healthcare information technology (HIT) legislation policy, network with state officials and their staff, and plan and participate in HIMSS advocacy activities.  The Manager will work seamlessly with other members of the HIMSS Arlington Office and other HIMSS personnel to successfully implement the Board of Directors-approved State Government Relations initiative.

Required Qualifications: Masters Degree, or equivalent experience.  Five years of related work experience.  Outstanding analytical skills with ability to achieve results in a complex environment.  Strong understanding of executive branch of state and federal governments with some experience with legislative branch.  Strong research skills with clear understanding of electronic and other resources available on state initiatives.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Effective listener and high integrity.  Outstanding experiential knowledge of Microsoft Suite (specifically Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).  Previous experience in a professional society, trade association or healthcare management.  Customer focused with energetic assertive, self-confident personality.  Superior planning skills.  Ability to build collaborative relationships.  Background or knowledge in information systems, technology, and/or healthcare is an asset.

Healthcare Organizational Services

Director, HCOS

Primary Responsibilities include contributing to the strategic growth of HIMSS by increasing Organizational Affiliate member revenue.  Identify and prioritize potential Organizational Affiliates to ensure they are aware and taking advantage of benefits and opportunities.  Pursue, engage and retain those organizations as active participants in HIMSS initiatives.  Direct the establishment of policies and practices for Organizational Affiliates. Develop and execute HIMSS strategic and tactical activities to meet departmental objectives. Develop and implement outreach, marketing, and communications plans. Identify Organizational Affiliates’ needs and develop and execute programs to attract new members and retain existing members, including benefits refinement, positioning and pricing.  Develop and maintain strong and deep CIO/C-Suite relationships with Organizational Affiliates to assess service and program needs.  Act as liaison between Organizational Affiliates and HIMSS executive staff.  Obtain cooperation with other staff in the organization to fulfill Organizational Affiliates’ requests.  Work with the VP, HCOS and HCOS Account Manager to design and develop tools and reports for tracking and management of Organizational Affiliates.  Perform other related duties as required or assigned that contribute to the effectiveness of the department.  Perform all duties as assigned to achieve HIMSS goals and objectives.

Required Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters Degree.  Must have a minimum of seven (7) years experience in the HIT industry.  Senior level account management experience.  Related experience in sales or customer relationship management.  Existing network and relationships with HIT organizations and executive.  Strong communication skills (written and verbal).  Strong decision-making, problem solving, creativity, and negotiating skills.  Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and the ability to build trust and confidence with executive level staff.  Good organizational, time management and project management skills.  Strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and execute new programs targeting executive-level customers.  Have a full understanding of all HIMSS professional initiatives.

Director – Marketing and Business Development, HIMSS Europe, Brussels

The Director of Marketing and Business Development is responsible for developing and implementing conference marketing and sales programs within Europe. Specific responsibilities include creation of marketing strategy, marketing messaging and direct management of the production of marketing materials, including website and communications. Business development responsibilities include negotiation of marketing partnerships with media and related organizations and the coordination of all sales efforts.

Other assignments include: Management of vendors responsible for creative services including graphic design, marketing writing, printing and the posting of marketing materials. Oversight of website and electronic communications development (newsletters, e-pushes, etc.). Oversight of press relations, media partnership development, and advertising strategy. Equip and motivate a virtual sales force to ensure targets for conference exhibition and sponsorship are achieved. Liaise with key governmental and non-governmental stakeholders in the European eHealth community. Provide strategic direction for business and market development; market research and planning; promotion and advertising; resource allocation/management, and fiscal management.

Requirements: A Master’s degree in business, healthcare administration, marketing, communication or equivalent experience. A minimum of five years experience in relevant fields and a demonstrated record of accomplishments in conference and exhibition marketing. General knowledge of the healthcare information technology industry is an asset. Command of English and French (or Flemish). Knowledge of other major European languages is an asset. Ability to represent HIMSS Europe in external speaking engagements. Strong interpersonal skills, maturity and judgment. Ability to work effectively as an accomplished leader, inspiring staff and others to be fully engaged in the vision, mission and goals. HIMSS Foundation/Dorenfest Institute Internship

Internship

The primary responsibilities of this internship is to coordinate new Database awareness and outreach programs.  Processes Database access applications ensuring accuracy.  Prepares summary reports based on data stored within the Institute.  Maintains applicant database files.  Prepares quarterly and annual Database usage reports.  Troubleshoots service issues and provides resolution using independent discretion and in accordance with HIMSS requirements.  Documents service issues in accordance with established procedures.  Perform other related duties as required or assigned that contribute to the effectiveness of the Dorenfest Institute.  All duties as assigned to achieve the goals and objectives of the Dorenfest Institute.

Information Technology

Database Developer, Chicago

The Database Administrator’s primary responsibility is to provide hands-on support in the design and development of all Relational Database Management Systems. This includes all development, staging and production database servers and applications. Responsible for SQL Server 2000 installations including setup, configuration and service pack and hot fix installation. Applying knowledge of the latest enterprise security concepts to production systems. Managing database performance optimization and capacity planning and look for tuning opportunities. Installing and configuring SQL Server software onto new servers and upgrade existing SQL Server software to newer versions and/or Service Pack Levels. Maintaining database security, integrity, and availability. Setting up and monitoring alerts, operators, SQL Mail, linked server connections, DTS packages, and scheduled jobs that perform specific database tasks. Assisting with the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from disparate sources and ensure its integrity. Interface with the IS Infrastructure team for hardware upgrades and builds. Administering periodic backups of databases and transaction logs. Developing and maintaining database recovery plan. Collaborating with developers on creating, debugging and deploying Stored Procedures, Custom DTS Jobs, tables, indexes, triggers etc. Creating automated TSQL scripts to process summary database transactions that run off-hours. Running ad-hoc reports from the databases. Creating, Monitoring and managing the periodic EXCEL spreadsheets that deliver data to the various business owners.

Requirements: A Bachelors degree in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent experience is required. 3-5+ years of Database Administration experience with SQL Server 2005 is preferred. 5 years DBA experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 in an operations environment. Experience supporting and implementing complex logical database designs and relational database concepts. A minimum of 3 years Transact SQL experience with an advanced ability to analyze and architect data and data models/schema. Candidates should also have 5 years of SQL Server administrative experience including managing multiple database servers. Data modeling experience (ERWIN) or equivalent preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Effective analyst able to work closely with non-technical users. Previous experience in a professional society, trade association or healthcare management preferred. Ability to explain complex subjects to the audience with wide variety of technical skills. Intergrating the Healthcare Enterprise

Coordinator, IHE

This position is responsible for the coordination support of the HIMSS sponsored IHE activities.  These activities include secretariat staff support to various committees including: IHE International Board, USA Board, North American Interoperability Showcase Planning Committee, IT Infrastructure Planning and Technical Committees, Patient Care Coordination Planning and Technical Committees, Quality, Research and Public Health Planning and Technical Committees and logistical planning activities for the Patient Care Devices Planning and Technical Committees.  This position will be responsible for developing processes and tools for the IHE team to use in order to help the IHE committees be successful in accomplishing deliverables.  This position will create and maintain committee rosters, Google group lists, TIMSS Member records and SharePoint portal sites for the committees.  The position will draft and publish agendas, document minutes for committee meetings and tcons and enforce adherence to the IHE International and IHE USA governance process requirements for the IHE committees. The position will coordinate work items with meeting services, sales, accounting, marketing, communications, IT and education for the North American testing events (Connectathons), conferences, webinars and Interoperability demonstrations at HIMSS conferences.  This position will help develop and enter the IHE Account budgets and report variances as well as provide primary coordination and logistical support for the Director and Sr. Director of IHE.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, healthcare, informatics, or related field. Minimum of 2-3 years experience with HIT standards or systems, responsibility for coordination of multiple projects, groups and related activities in a healthcare environment. Knowledge of the healthcare information and management systems industry. Experience with delivery of timely, high quality customer service and effective communication to customers, collaborators, volunteers and co-workers. Work history in project management. Outstanding analytical skills with ability to achieve results in a complex environment. This includes strong organizational skills, detail orientation and the ability to work collaboratively with external and internal team members. Strong planning and time management skills, with the ability to determine effective and efficient strategies to coordinate and accomplish assigned work.  Must be able to understand and communicate complex technical content related to IHE in order to integrate department materials and to coordinate committees. The Vice President of Marketing’s primary responsibility is to plan, design and oversee implementation of marketing plans that are consistent with and in support of HIMSS’ mission, goals, and objectives.  Ensures that the HIMSS brand is consistent, in compliance and evolves as the HIT market changes.  Developing a system for each product line to identify and define the current market and to continually identify future potential markets.  Provide leadership and expertise by developing and managing a marketing team to deliver the necessary marketing strategies and tactics.  Collaborates with senior staff to conduct market research and recommends strategies and tactics as required.
