
HIMSS Office of Advocacy and Public Policy was founded in February 2000 and focuses on equipping federal and state officials with the knowledge they need to implement appropriate policy and works with all interested stakeholders including individual members, corporations, and collaborating organizations to coordinate and advance healthcare IT and management systems through advocacy and public policy initiatives. Advocacy and Public Policy legislative and regulatory actions are guided by HIMSS Legislative Principles.
During HIMSS 7th Annual Advocacy Day, held on June 11 in Washington, DC, the Society presented its 2008 Advocacy Awards to five federal and state officials, as well as the states of New York and Tennessee.
