HIMSS Announces the 2008 Advocacy Award Winners

During HIMSS 7th Annual Advocacy Day on June 11 in Washington, DC, the Society  announced recipients of the 2008 Advocacy Awards to

  • U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)
  • U.S. Representative Phil Gingrey (R-GA)
  • Robert Kolodner, MD, national coordinator for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Health Information Technology
  • New Jersey Assemblyman Herb Conaway, MD (D)
  • Commissioner of Georgia Department of Public Health Rhonda Medows, MD
  • The state of New York
  • The state of Tennessee


HIMSS 2008 State Advocacy Awards were presented at the Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel during the Advocacy Day luncheon. Lori M. Evans, Deputy Commissioner for the Office of Health Information Technology Transformation, New York State Department of Health, accepted on behalf of the state of New York. Melissa Hargiss, Assistant Director of the Tennessee eHealth Initiative accepted on behalf of the state of Tennessee.

The Federal Leadership Awards were presented during the National Health IT Week Networking Reception and Awards Ceremony at the Library of Congress, Madison Building.
