Emotional Intelligence and Leadership

As a result of recent research on brain activity and behavioral research, the importance of Emotional Intelligence (EI) has emerged. Theorists, such as Goleman, have suggested that EI is twice as important as a person’s IQ or technical abilities. EI also plays a key role in effective leadership skills. Leaders are not only judged on how smart they are but how well they handle themselves and others in the workplace. EI consists of competencies which can be acquired, developed and fostered.
