BERLIN, GERMANY – (March 25, 2019) – The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has entered into an alliance with the Handelsblatt event company Euroforum Deutschland GmbH to launch an international conference dedicated to advancing digital healthcare in the country.

The business news media - which has a daily print readership of nearly half a million and over 5m unique monthly visitors to its online version - has teamed up with the Chicago-based global not-for-profit to create HEALTH – The Digital Leaders, an annual innovation meeting for Germany’s healthcare decision-makers, which runs on 5 and 6 November this year in Berlin.

“Though it is the largest healthcare market in the world outside the US, Germany lags far behind in digital health adoption, with one of the lowest digitisation levels of any developed country,” said Henning Schneider, CIO of the Asklepios Hospital Group, one of Germany’s leading private hospital groups - and scientific chair for the conference. “Germany’s new government has committed to drive the digitisation of the health sector and to establish a legal and economic framework to boost the digital health industry. This conference will bring together the people who can make this happen,” said Schneider, who is also a member of the HIMSS Worldwide Board.

Bruce Steinberg, Managing Director and EVP for HIMSS International, said: “We are delighted to partner with Handelsblatt, one of the world's pre-eminent media groups" said Bruce Steinberg, Managing Director and EVP for HIMSS International. "Germany is now clearly focused on improving the health and care of its citizens through digital transformation and HIMSS is excited to help make this happen. With our partner, we will bring together global thought leaders and best practice case studies to illustrate and emphasize the value of digital health for providers, the economy, the society and ultimately each one of us as patients,” said Steinberg.

“We are also very excited about this collaboration,” said Annemarie Brems, CEO of Euroforum, the event organizer of Duesseldorf-based Handelsblatt Media Group. The publication already successfully runs major leadership summits and c-level conferences for many of the industries it serves, from automotive to finance. Their events generate a high reach among experts and decision makers of various business fields. “Though we have national impact and influence within Germany, in HIMSS we have found a partner with the global reach and through-leadership in healthcare – one which has already engaged with many healthcare systems in the world to improve healthcare through information and technology; it’s this experience and network that will greatly benefit our delegates, readers and the German healthcare system.”

HEALTH – The Digital Leaders will be located at Berlin’s Pullman Hotel and is expected to draw around 300 top-level digital leaders and decision makers from across the German healthcare industry.
