Meet the Changemakers: Byanca Ellul

HIMSS serves the global health information and technology communities with focused operations across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Our members include more than 80,000 individuals, 480 provider organizations, 470 non-profit partners and 650 health services organizations. The HIMSS staff is made up of changemakers who collaborate with members to reform the global health ecosystem through the power of information and technology.

Byanca Ellul is a Meeting Services Coordinator at HIMSS.

How long have you been at HIMSS?

September 2020 will make it two years!

How do you support our mission statement?

Being a part of the Meeting Services team and creating collaborative meetings, gatherings and conferences directly aids HIMSS in achieving our mission. Bringing people from all around the world together at our Annual Global Health Conference & Exhibition is truly one of the highlights of my job. A few of the meetings I’ve planned and executed are the GCEC Planning Meeting, which was a two-day event that took place in Rosemont, Illinois, Chapter Leader Exchange, which was held in Santa Clara, California, and the IHE International Face 2 Face Meeting, which was held in Sardinia, Italy, to name a few.

How do you know your work at HIMSS makes a difference?

Another large meeting I’ve worked on was the 2020 IHE Connectathon, which was held in Cleveland at the Huntington Convention Center for approximately 400 attendees over the course of a week. This event has many programs in addition to the Connectathon. There are planning meetings, multiple breakout sessions, as well as networking and social events throughout the week. Planning this while simultaneously working on global conference was definitely a challenge. However, not only were my HIMSS colleagues openly supportive and appreciative of the work that had been done, the attendees were so thankful as well.

What’s one thing you wish everyone knew about the work you do at HIMSS?

One thing I wish everyone knew would have to be the attention to detail my team puts into every conference and every meeting. From the opening reception to signage to promotional materials, there is an intention behind each item. I am proud to be a part of the Meeting Services team and a part of HIMSS!
