Jonah Feldman, MD, FACP

One of the September 2024 Physician Committee member spotlights is Dr. Jonah Feldman, who is in his first year on the HIMSS Physician Committee. I have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Feldman on two webinars this year, and his passion for educating and improving the clinician experience is very evident. In addition to the work he is doing with the Committee, he and his team published an article in the NEJM and in Nature Medicine. Dr. Feldman has been named a rising star in Medicine + Health IT by Medscape and Becker’s Healthcare. I’m very excited to have the opportunity to work with him for another year and see what concepts he has for the group!

Below are his thoughts on the HIT industry and what the future holds.

During your time as a HIMSS member, how have the industry connections and relationships helped you achieve your biggest professional milestones?

Dr. Feldman: As a HIMSS member, the industry connections and relationships have been pivotal in reaching my key professional milestones. The collaborative environment at HIMSS has enabled me to engage with professionals passionate about health IT, influencing my work on large-scale transformations, such as my recognized work at NYU Langone Health.

What are the benefits of a health information and technology career? Why should someone consider it?

Dr. Feldman: As a Physician Informaticist, I find a career in health information and technology offers numerous benefits. Firstly, it provides the opportunity to be at the forefront of healthcare transformation. With the advent of new technologies, we are now able to make a real difference in people's lives by improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare.  The field is continuously evolving, offering endless opportunities for learning and growth.

What do you see as the future of health information and technology? Where do you think the industry can/will go?

Dr. Feldman: Looking ahead, I see a future where healthcare delivery and technology become even more intertwined. The advancements in Generative AI, Machine Learning, and Robotic Process Automation will continue to revolutionize healthcare. I believe we will see more personalized and predictive healthcare, with AI and Machine Learning algorithms analyzing patient data to predict health issues before they occur. Robotic Process Automation will further streamline administrative tasks, allowing healthcare professionals to focus more on patient care. The industry has the potential to make healthcare more efficient, accessible, and personalized than ever before.
