Angie Claypool

HIMSS serves the global health information and technology communities with focused operations across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Our members include more than 80,000 individuals, 480 provider organizations, 470 non-profit partners and 650 health services organizations. The HIMSS staff is made up of changemakers who collaborate with members to reform the global health ecosystem through the power of information and technology.

Angie Claypool is Director of Chapter Relations at HIMSS.

How long have you been at HIMSS?

It’ll be 12 years in June. And since then, I’ve held a variety of roles. Starting in HIMSS Analytics, supporting corporate members, managing the EHR Association and now overseeing the chapter program.

How do you support our mission statement?

Our team manages 57 North America chapters who are bringing the HIMSS mission locally. Within North America, we have more than 850 chapter leaders who are dedicated and passionate HIMSS volunteers producing targeted education, networking, advocacy initiatives, career development, community service and much more. I am so pleased to see the great accomplishments of our chapters, which are making positive changes for the betterment of health, and supporting them through the process.

How do you know your work at HIMSS makes a difference?

I am very blessed to be in a role where I see the positive results every day. Through our volunteers, we are educating members, promoting best practices and seeing our voices heard in policy actions. Last year, our chapters hosted more than 370 events with over 1,125 hours of local education, over 120 advocacy programming hours and nearly 30,000 attendees.

Through the COVID-19 pandemic, while chapter volunteers have been extremely busy in their day jobs, they have gone above and beyond to ensure members are engaged, best practices are shared, education is hosted virtually and community facilitation is bringing people together. For example, our five Texas chapters have come together to provide meals of gratitude to providers.

What’s one thing you wish everyone knew about the work you do at HIMSS?

My favorite part of my job is interacting with members. I love hearing their stories and journeys within the healthcare industry. Everyone’s journey is different. I have the pleasure of interacting with members every single day. HIMSS chapters are doing incredible things, and if anyone is looking for an opportunity to learn together, connect locally or volunteer and make a difference, please check out your local chapter.
