HIMSS serves the global health information and technology communities with focused operations across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Our members include more than 80,000 individuals, 480 provider organizations, 470 non-profit partners and 650 health services organizations. The HIMSS staff is made up of changemakers who collaborate with members to reform the global health ecosystem through the power of information and technology.

Lauren Hernandez is Director of Marketing at HIMSS.

How long have you been at HIMSS?

In August, I will have been here for 10 years. Whoa!

How do you support our mission statement?

I get excited to directly connect our members with the right resources to help them in their day-to-day. The amount of information and technology expertise that our HIMSS volunteers and staff bring to the table is truly incredible. If I can amplify that knowledge and find ways for others to learn from it, then I’ve brought us one step closer to fulfilling our mission.

How do you know your work at HIMSS makes a difference?

My “nine-to-five” is all about communications for the HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition. Seeing this event come to life once we’re on-site is a truly magical experience. There’s nothing like the energy our attendees have when they’re there. Honestly, it’s unmatched. I can’t wait until next year when we will finally be back together again. I’ve had the opportunity to have so many conversations with our attendees. Sometimes we’re griping about coffee lines. Sometimes we’re scouting a great after-hours party. But the conversations that stick with me are the ones where they’re geeking out about meeting a speaker, or asking how to get more involved with HIMSS as a member. We know their professional lives aren’t always rainbows and puppy dogs. Coming to our conference reenergizes drive and passion across a shared vision. And for me, personally, the ability to connect with such intelligent individuals is a humbling, gratifying experience.

What’s one thing you wish everyone knew about the work you do at HIMSS?

There is an incredible amount of time, effort and care that goes into the thought behind our marketing because we truly believe in the value of our organization. HIMSS is a family, and I’m proud to call it my professional home.
