What is one of the biggest challenges you’ve encountered? How did you overcome it?

The recurring challenge of hospital leaders wanting to implement tech for the sake of tech is not easy to overcome. Explaining that our frontline staff has answers to the problems that need to be solved takes great persuasion, with testimonials from staff, evaluation of failed implementations, and evidence from other organizational success stories. 

What is a collaboration you’re really proud of?

I am very proud to see the collaboration between the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Community and the American Nurses Association (ANA) for the Nurse Pitch event. Nurses are true innovators on the frontlines of healthcare, inspiring ideas and solutions that have the potential to make a tremendous impact. I am thrilled to see HIMSS supporting nurses, the most trusted healthcare professionals, and lifting up their voices to improve the lives of patients.

What advice do you have for someone who might want to enter the health information and technology industry?

Do it! It is a stimulating and rewarding field. In just 10 years with HIMSS, I have seen so many positive changes in using technology to advance patient care. From policy, to innovation, to education, to practice, there are numerous facets to explore that make it a fulfilling career choice. My favorite part about HIMSS is that it's rare to encounter someone who doesn't support a fellow health information and technology professional. From the staff to the members, it's a community of caring.

If you could time travel, where would you go?

Another universe... I know there is life out there and they must have some good answers for us.
