HIPAA: Pearls from the Professionals

Since the initial HIPAA Privacy rule released in 2003, the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has received over 275,000 complaints resulting in $113 million of fines for HIPAA breaches and violations.

In this year alone, we have already seen $5.6 million in fines assessed.

HIPAA is scary but real, and enforcement has increased over 400% in recent years.

Join us on Wednesday, November 17, at the 8th Annual HIMSS Gulf Coast Chapters Pre-Conference in Mobile. We will hear from experts, including Sarah West, an attorney and OCR investigator specializing in HIPAA compliance. Stakeholders from our southern region will join Sarah to discuss compliance, the process of investigating breaches and complaints, and an overview of the OCR’s guidance related to the pandemic. This special session will conclude with an open Town Hall Discussion, where all are encouraged to share both best practices and authentic experiences.
