Lea Raak is a patient expert and advocate for people with chronic conditions and disabilities and well connected in the International Diabetes Community. After her diagnosis with Type 1 Diabetes in 2011 she started her advocacy work by blogging about her life with Diabetes on Insulea.de and connecting with others via Social Media. In 2019 she was named the German Young Leader in Diabetes by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). She is currently enrolled in a master programme, writing her thesis about Patient Empowerment in Diabetes Therapy in Germany. She is also part of the #LanguageMatters Movement in Diabetes Therapy. 
In 2021 Lea Raak established Blickwinkel Diabetes, a community led interest group that wants to change the perspective society has on Diabetes and help by establishing resources and nurturing exchange opportunities for people living with Type 1 Diabetes online and offline.
