 Ph.D. Sami Oikarinen has worked over 20 years in the field of virology and he has a strong academic background. Sami is an Associate Professor in molecular virology at the Tampere University. He has 90 peer-reviewed scientific articles, and he is an inventor of seven patents. His interests involve environmental health, virology, microbiology, wastewater epidemiology and PCR based detection methods, including mass sequencing methods. Sami works in a group, which is developing the first virus based vaccine for prevention of type 1 diabetes. The vaccine has passed the first human trial. Sami and his group are developing a national preparedness tool for future pandemics in collaboration with Helsinki University and Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare. Sami is co-founder of Greenseq Ltd and his responsibility is product development. The company is focused on environmental microbiological analysis. The aim is to improve healthy living environments by the analysis of actual pathogens.
