Nursing Informatics Survey Collecting Insight on Electronic Records, Decision Support, Career Advancement

Nurses and nurse informaticists of all levels, titles, years of experience and locations are encouraged to share their insights on the evolving role nurse informaticists play in healthcare. 

HIMSS conducts its Nursing Informatics Workforce Survey every three years, building upon research that began in 2004. The survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete and is open to nurses around the world.

The survey aims to identify changing dynamics in clinical experience, job responsibilities, applications, barriers to success, compensation and benefits. 

The resulting report will demonstrate how nursing informatics has evolved into an integral part of healthcare delivery and a differentiating factor in the selection, implementation and evaluation of health IT that supports safe, high-quality, patient-centric care. 

Frequently used in research related to the shifts in the nursing informatics workforce, the widely cited report shows how healthcare organizations may build their governance structure and develop tracks of advancement for nurses and nurse informaticists.  

The results of the HIMSS 2020 Nursing Informatics Workforce Survey found that nurse informaticists are the driving force behind the development, implementation and optimization of electronic medical/health records, nursing clinical documentation, point-of-care clinical decision support and computerized practitioner order entry.
