Areej Algaith holds a PhD in Computer Science (Cybersecurity) from the Centre for Software Reliability (CSR) in City, University of London (2019). MSc degree in Internet, Computer and System Security from University of Bradford. During her PhD studies at the CSR, she was involved in two European funded security projects, the UK EPSRC-funded D3S (Diversity and Defence in Depth for Security – A Probabilistic Approach) project and the EU H2020-funded DiSIEM2 (Diversity Enhancements for SIEMs) project with Amadeus. Her research interests are on assessing the security benefits of defence in depth, defence in breadth, fault-tolerant and intrusion-tolerant systems, diversity to improve security and dependability. She has published scientific papers in journals and refereed conference proceedings in those areas. She is also a reviewer for multiple international journals   

In September 2011, she was appointed as a Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science, and in December 2019  was appointed as an Assistant Professor. Since January 2022, she is serving as the Head of Department of Computer Science, Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU), Riyadh K.S.A
