Moody’s Analytics Chief Economist Mark Zandi’s keynote speech at the 2023 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition will project the next few years as healthcare organizations work to balance business and clinical effectiveness.
Titled, Are More Turbulent Times Ahead for Healthcare? An Economic Outlook, the session is slated for 8:30 a.m. CT, Friday, April 21, 2023, at HIMSS23 in Chicago. Zandi will discuss whether a recession is inevitable, how it could affect healthcare, and the possibility of avoiding a downturn.
Zandi is one of several keynote speakers for the week-long event. Healthcare economics spans local and global conditions, with a focus on the patient, industry growth and achieving meaningful outcomes. Clinical effectiveness is a journey, and healthcare is a capital-intensive undertaking regardless of where care is delivered. Balancing financial health and operating losses, debt management, mergers and acquisitions, and a myriad of other market forces is a team sport.
Besides directing economic research at Moody’s Analytics, Zandi serves on the board of directors of Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation, the nation’s largest private mortgage insurance company. He is the lead director of Reinvestment Fund, one of the nation’s largest community development financial institutions investing in underserved communities. Moody’s Analytics, a subsidiary of Moody’s Corp., is a leading provider of economic research, data and analytical tools. Zandi is a cofounder of Economy.com, owned by Moody’s since 2005.
Zandi is a trusted adviser to policymakers and an influential economist for businesses, journalists and the public. He frequently testifies before Congress and conducts regular briefings on the economy for corporate boards, trade associations and policymakers. He is often quoted in national and global publications and is a frequent guest on CNBC, NPR, Meet the Press, CNN, and other major news outlets.
He has authored, “Paying the Price: Ending the Great Recession and Beginning a New American Century,” an assessment of the monetary and fiscal policy response to the Great Recession. His other book, “Financial Shock: A 360º Look at the Subprime Mortgage Implosion, and How to Avoid the Next Financial Crisis,” is described by the New York Times as the “clearest guide” to the financial crisis.
