Angela Ross, a retired LTC and nursing professional with over 22 years of experience in the US Army Nurse Corps, has an impressive background in informatics and healthcare administration. Her credentials include a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), a Master of Public Health (MPH), a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, a Digital and Analog Systems Maintenance (DASM) certification, a Public Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (PHCNS-BC) certification, a Fellow of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (FHIMSS) designation, and an Adult Nurse (AN) certification.
She has held various key positions, including Chief Medical Information Officer, Acting Chief of System Service and Design, and Nurse Consultant and Project Manager for the U.S. Army Medical Information Technology Center, transitioning to the Defense Health Agency (DHA).
Angela's expertise lies in translating research into everyday practice and advancing nursing practice to improve healthcare outcomes. Throughout her career she has been able to “help informatics professionals identify the relevance of informatics in everyday practice by teaching them how to translate research and apply evidence-based practice.”
When asked about a significant milestone in her career, Angela proudly recalls obtaining her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of Maryland School of Nursing. This achievement helped her become an assistant professor at the UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics, where she continues to inspire and educate future nursing leaders.
With an extensive background in informatics consulting and project management, she has successfully led the selection, implementation, and integration of clinical information technologies to improve care delivery and clinical decision-making.
Looking ahead, Angela plans to continue advancing nursing practice through ethical, conceptual, and theoretical thinking, utilizing an evidence-based approach to improve healthcare outcomes. She volunteers her services at Health Care for The Homeless Houston and serves as a Co-Principal Investigator and lead for Evaluation for the Community Engagement component of the Texas Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences grant.
Angela notes that nurses are recognized and valued for their contributions at UTHealth, where promotion, education, and training are supported, and the organization has several recognized celebrations.
