11:30 AM - 11:55 AM -- Career 1: Craft a Winning Healthcare Resume | Bonnie Siegel, FHIMSS

In this session, I will guide you through successful healthcare resume writing. I will help you create a winning career narrative and marketing document. This session will show you key factors that sets a resume apart, and draws in the reader. I will also discuss what resume mistakes to avoid. There will be shown an example of a well-crafted healthcare IT resume. This session will provide suggestions to build a strong online profile and image. At the end of 15 minutes. there will be a 10-minute question and answer period. As an added benefit to any Career Expo registrant, I will offer, for up to 30 days, a free email resume review after the session. Additional handouts from this session for participants will be available as a link on the Career Expo website. These will include: Resume Writing Guidelines, Sample Healthcare IT resumes, Sample Cover Letter. Use these handouts to craft your new marketing document for 2022.

12:00 PM - 12:25 PM -- Career  2: Prep and Ace Your Interview | Bonnie Siegel, FHIMSS

In this session, I will help you prepare for several different methods of interviewing. This session will help you understand the difference between phone interviews, virtual interviews and in-person interviews. This session will help you prepare an effective elevator speech, and show you an example of one. This session will identify some tough interview questions you may be asked. I will give you tips on a successful virtual interview. This session will explain the major gaffes to avoid in all interviews, and how to conclude an interview and follow-up. I will highlight handling potential offers and negotiations. Please add your questions in the chat box during the session and after 15 minutes, I will have time to answer them. The following items will be available by link on the Career Expo website for your further interview preparation - List of Tough Interview Questions, Examples of STAR Questions, How to Make a Good First Impression and Sample Offer Letter. These handouts can be used in your interview tool box.

12:30 PM - 12:55 PM -- Career 3: Transitions & Your Personal Career Action Plan | Catherine Iocona, MBA, CPHIMS, CPC

In this session, I will walk you through a number of key considerations for designing their career action plan, taking them through a career discovery process that includes identifying their values, strengths, interests and skills. This session will encourage the attendees to think through where they are in their careers, where they would like to be, and what steps they will take to move forward and reach their intended career goals. After about 15 minutes, I will answer questions related to the presentation and follow up with three tangible deliverables for participants to take with them for further self-reflection and action planning. These will be:

  • Career Discovery Tool – contains thought provoking questions to help clarify career goals and objectives and develop action steps
  • Career Wheel – A tool for individuals to self-assess their level of satisfaction in 8 key areas related to career success
  • Key Traits for Healthcare IT Roles – This handout maps crucial traits for success in any healthcare IT role focusing on “soft skills” and emotional intelligence.

Bonnie is an independent health IT career consultant. She most recently was a Consultant at Witt Kieffer, a prominent healthcare and higher education executive search firm. She specialized in recruiting CIOs, CTOs, CISOs, Clinical IT leaders and other healthcare IT senior leadership positions. Bonnie formerly held executive search leadership roles at Sanford Rose Associates, Cejka Search and Hersher Associates. She began her healthcare IT career with Dorenfest & Associates, where she was a consultant and led health IT market research studies. She wrote a CIO career management blog for www.healthsystemcio.com, and was an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago for their Masters of Health Informatics program.
