30 Days in the Dark

November 15, 2023 | Chapter Event

In October 2020, the University of Vermont Medical Center discovered its systems had been hit in a ransomware attack. All systems were proactively brought offline to preserve the IT infrastructure's integrity. The medical center was dark in less than a few hours. Over 600 applications, phones, fax machines, the tube system, lab analyzers, diagnostic radiology equipment, pagers...everything was offline.

Rebecca Freeman, PHD, RN, FAAN, FNAN will explore lessons learned and best practices during the early days of the outage, the process of getting everyone back online, and the incredible pain of interim states, all with the goal of helping other organizations that might find themselves in similar dire straits.
