Dear Northern Ohio HIMSS Members,
As many of you experienced at the 2024 Spring Conference, the lecture program included insightful panels and discussions on the impact of AI on healthcare. The topics covered ranged from AI and Big Data addressing SDOH disparities, Digital Health Headwinds, and Insights from the Frontline, to Generative AI and Navigating the Future with AI. Even non-AI topics frequently referenced AI in their presentations.
Considering these discussions, the Northern Ohio HIMSS Board recognizes a significant opportunity to establish our region's leadership in AI-driven healthcare solutions. We propose the establishment of a “Northern Ohio AI Center of Excellence”. This initiative aims to create, facilitate, and participate in a collaborative and innovative environment that advances healthcare in Northeast Ohio. By doing so, we can drive improved patient outcomes, increase operational efficiencies, and bolster our regional economy.
Initial Strategic Goals:
Facilitate Collaboration: Encourage knowledge sharing and joint projects among NE Ohio healthcare institutions, universities, colleges, government entities, and businesses to foster a collaborative ecosystem.
Eliminate Redundancy: Streamline AI efforts to avoid duplicative work and maximize resource efficiency. Identify common initiatives, such as cancer research, to unify efforts and resources.
Promote Innovation: Foster a culture of continuous improvement and cutting-edge research in AI applications. Emphasize the importance of sharing advancements and insights to drive collective progress.
Establish Leadership: Position Northeast Ohio as leaders in AI for healthcare, showcasing our region's advancements and successes on a broader stage.
To move forward with this initiative, we will be meeting as a board this month to discuss starting ideas on how to establish the Northeast Ohio AI Center of Excellence. Key steps include defining the mission and vision, forming a steering committee, and determining funding requirements and resources. By focusing on these foundational elements, we aim to build a robust framework that will support our strategic goals and position Northeast Ohio as a leader in AI-driven healthcare. We believe that by working together towards these goals, we can significantly enhance healthcare in our region
