Combatting Senior Isolation through Esports & Gaming

Senior isolation and loneliness among older adults is one of the most serious health issues facing our country today. About 28% of older adults in the US, or 13.8 million people, live alone, a condition exacerbated by COVID-19. Esports & Gaming - Part of the Solution: AARP’s latest survey on the topic revealed that 44 percent of Americans age 50+ enjoy video games (interactive digital entertainment) at least once a month. What’s the draw for the 50-plus crowd? Like most gamers, they play games for fun (75% of those surveyed). Another 57% find gaming to be a stress reducer. Staying mentally sharp and challenged are added bonuses more commonly cited among people as they aged. Join us as we learn of how Pennsylvania is doing to leverage this technology to keep seniors more healthy and engaged.
