As senior manager (digital technology) and clinical technology lead at the Wellcome Trust, Dr Bilal Mateen leads software and digital infrastructure funding as part of the Data for Science and Health team. His team supports computational science-related funding across the three health challenges that Wellcome focuses on (Climate, Infectious Diseases, and Mental Health), as well as directly funding a portfolio of emerging technology that has the potential to catalyse the next generation of science and health research. Bilal continues to practice medicine at Kings College Hospital, having trained as a physician, and is also an active academic in the field of machine learning and data science for health. Bilal holds honorary faculty positions at the UK’s national institute of data science and AI, as well as University College London's Institute for Heath of Health informatics.
