Husein Reka is a Senior Advisor for healthcare finance and policy at the Council of Health Insurance of Saudi Arabia. Before that he has held senior executive positions in several countries in the Gulf region, Europe and Asia leading research, health system transformation and reforms with main focus on establishing sustainable health care financing schemes. As part of his health transformation work, health information, patient classification and value based payment models were key building blocks for a sustainable health financing. His expert domains are international health policy, health financing, and health economics.

Reka has co-authored several papers on access, utilization and health system responsiveness, and risk factors in diabetes, obesity and hypertension.

His current work focuses on how to design and implement value based health care at a system level through the introduction of key enablers in informatics, payment models and outcome and cost measurement.

Reka holds a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from St. Cyril and Methodius. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Health Economics and master’s degree in Health Technology Assessment from the University of York, a master’s degree in International Health Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science as a Chevening Scholar, and an MBA from Imperial College Business School. He is a Fellow of Asia Global Institute at the University of Hong Kong.
