Prof Jeffrey V. Lazarus

Professor Lazarus is an expert on health systems and infectious diseases known for having developed the micro-elimination approach in viral hepatitis C and the “Fourth 90” in HIV/AIDS. He serves as head of the health systems team at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) and an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Barcelona, Spain. He is Vice-Chairman of the board of the EASL International Liver Foundation and co-chair of the HIV Outcomes Beyond Viral Suppression Coalition.

He is the author of more than 300 publications including COVID-SCORE, Nature Medicine (2020). He has presented at more than 100 conferences, including chairing and speaking at HIMSS) as well as in the Danish, Finnish, Spanish and European parliaments. Previously, he worked for 11 years at WHO Europe and 3 at the Global Fund as well as serving as the founding director of Health Systems Global and the board chair of the foundation AFEW International.

During the current pandemic, Professor Lazarus and his team have reoriented their research to address public health and policy efforts targeting COVID-19. He has appeared as an expert more than 75 times on Al Jazeera, BBC World, Euronews, Sky News and Spanish national TV and radio, as well as in CNN, the Financial Times and The Wall St Journal.
