Simon Vermeer is CIO of Erasmus Medical Center since August 2015. He is responsible for IT and medical technology. In this role, he guides Erasmus MC in the digital journey towards a smart hospital. The convergence of medical and information technology will fuel Erasmus MC to become a Technology University Medical Center. Erasmus MC is a university medical center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands with a total turnover of app. EUR 2.2 bln. in care, research and aducation.

Many examples of innovative technology were implemented in the new Erasmus MC hospital accommodation which was taken into use in 2018. Simon is responsible for a 5-year program to implement IT-platforms and services enabling researchers to perform research in a better, faster, and more collaborative way. In 2022, he initiated the program ‘Digitally Connected’ to support the patient journey in an integrated, digital way.  

Simon started his career as officer in the Royal Dutch Army. He achieved his master degree in IT Management on the Middlesex University in London in 1998. Before Simon joined Erasmus MC, he worked for 12 years in different areas of the IT industry and was from 2010 until 2015 responsible for IT, real estate and facility services in Maasstad Hospital in Rotterdam.
