Kirsi Pietiläinen, MD, PhD, MSc in Nutrition

Dr Kirsi Pietiläinen is a Professor of Clinical Metabolism at the University of Helsinki, where she leads her translational research group at the Obesity Research Unit. She also works as a Chief Physician, heading the Obesity Center, a clinic for treatment of morbid obesity at the Helsinki University Hospital.

The research of KP has focused on genetic and environmental causes and consequences of obesity, the global metabolic profiling of obesity by systems biology methods, transcriptomics, metabolomics and epigenomics. As a clinician, Dr Pietiläinen has keen interest in the treatment obesity and type 2 diabetes. The clinical team of KP has recently launched a digital obesity treatment portal, the HealthyWeightHub.fi (painonhallintatalo.fi) as part of the Health Village at Helsinki University Hospital.

KP chairs the working group for Finnish Obesity Treatment Guidelines and is the president of the Finnish Association for Doctors Treating Obesity.
